CAIRO
Interim President Adly Mansour, Vice-President Mohamed ElBaradei, Defense Minister Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim performed the Eid prayers at the Air Force mosque in Cairo.
Addressing worshippers, former mufti Ali Gomaa denounced "those who call for violence, harm people and dress children in coffins", in reference to supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in Rabaa al-Adawiya Square.
Though incumbent Mufti Shawqi Allam and Azhar Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb were present, they did not deliver the Eid sermons.
In Rabaa square, protesters delayed their Eid prayers to wait the arrival of pro-Morsi marches from across Cairo.
In Nahda Square in Giza, another protest site for Morsi supporters, worshippers performed their prayers on time.
Egypt has been in the throes of political crisis since the army toppled Morsi, the country's first democratically elected president, after mass protests against this regime.
Ever since his overthrow, Morsi supporters have been staging daily rallies and sit-ins to defend his democratic legitimacy and demand his reinstatement.
