LONDON
Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis has said Turkey and the EU would come together on the long run on the basis of some concrete needs.
Visiting London for formal talks, Bagis attended BBC Newsnight programme aired on BBC 2 on Tuesday and stated that Turkey would like to be a full member of the EU because EU was the greatest peace project of the human history. He added Turkey's membership would carry it from being continental to global.
On a question of EU's goodwill, Bagis said the number of members supporting Turkey's accession by heart was more than the others. He added Turkey and the EU would come together on the long run on the basis of some concrete needs and both parties would benefit from that.
Regarding the possibility of UK would leave the union Bagis said the messages of British PM David Cameron was very clear and they would help the EU shape up.
Answering a question on the concerns of some member countries on migrations due to enlargement, Bagis said he believe those were not realistic concerns. According to the German statistics, the number of Germans immigrating Turkey was higher than the number of Turks immigrating to Germany, he said. He added after the economic crisis it would be better to live in Turkey.
He said several British people were buying real estate in Turkey, and live in higher standards with their pensions compared to a life in the UK.
On a question whether the US and the EU had done enough for Syria, Bagis said an average of 100 people had been losing their lives under their government's bombardments. He said if the current massacre continued, it would harm everyone and therefore "Russia and China should be persuaded to put pressure on Syrian dictator Assad" he added.
