ISTANBUL
A Syrian activist, academician and member of the opposition, Heysem Menna on Saturday said that he rejected an offer to lead a transitional government in Syria.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Menna said that certain international circles and several pro-Assad military officials offered him the leadership of a transitional government.
Menna said that he did not accept the offer as he thought he was not the appropriate person for such a position.
"In the event that Assad leaves his position or gets toppled, all executives in the Assad administration must be removed from power and tried in a court of law," Menna also said.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in the southern province of Hatay where he came to visit Syrians staying in several locations, the Chairman of the Syrian National Council, Abdulbasid Seyda said that they believed the UN Security Council, with its current structure, can not meet the needs and demands of the Syrian people.
"As such, we think that the friends of Syrian people have to use alternative ways to find a solution," Seyda stressed.
"The sharp shooters of the Syrian regime target children. We noticed that the Syrian forces use bullets and bombs that have been banned (by international laws)," Seyda added.
On the other hand, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Syrian National Assembly, Dr. Halit Hoca told reporters that the Syrian National Council and opposition favored a political solution in Syria.
"The Assad regime, in no way, wishes to accept a political solution in Syria," Dr. Hoca stressed.
