JERUSALEM
The Israeli army said Wednesday its warplanes attacked four military sites in the wee hours of the day in retaliation for a bomb attack in the occupied Golan Heights that left four of its soldiers wounded on Tuesday.
In a statement, the army said that its fighter jets targeted four Syrian military posts, including an artillery battery and a training base.
The Israeli raids hit the targets that facilitated the carrying out of Tuesday's attack in the occupied Golan Heights, the statement said..
On Tuesday, four Israeli soldiers were injured when a bomb detonated on the Syrian border.
According to the Israeli army, an explosive device went off south of the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The Golan Heights were occupied by Israel during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
In 1981, the self-proclaimed Jewish state formally annexed the territory.
The region is inhabited by a small Syrian Druze community of roughly 20,000.
