CAIRO (AA) - Kuwait sent 35 thousand tons of diesel fuel to Egypt within the framework of its oil aid plan to the country.
"Kuwait sent $33.3 million worth of diesel fuel to Egypt. The total worth of oil and diesel fuel that Kuwait sent to Egypt has reached to $300 million since July," Tarek al-Mulla, chief executive of state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corparation told AA.
Mulla emphasized that oil aid of the Gulf countiries contributed to overcome the oil crisis in the Egyptian market.
Last year, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation had turned down a request from its Egyptian counterpart to increase the volume of the monthly shipments, citing contractual obligations.
However, as other Gulf nations rushed to extend financial support to Egypt following the July 3 ouster of president Mohamed Morsi, Kuwait joined the drive, pledging $4 billion in aid to the crisis-hit country.
Besides Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates together pledged to provide Egypt with a total of $8 billion in assistance – aid packages that also include the delivery of petroleum products.
