SAN SALVADOR
A 7.4-magnitude earthquakeoccurred off the southern coast of El Salvador late Monday.
The quake was felt throughout Central America but there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake was centered about 64 kilometers to the south of the small coastal town of Intipuca at a depth of about 14 miles.
The National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially said dangerous tsunami waves were possible within about 185 miles of the epicenter along the coasts of Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador, but later said there was no threat.
