Here's a rundown of all the news you need to start your Monday, including a deadly attack at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, North Korea firing multiple ballistic missiles towards East Sea, and US President Donald Trump announcing immediate energy ceasefire between Russia, Ukraine.
One person was killed and 11 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh, the country’s civil aviation authority said early Monday.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed that the deceased was a Pakistani resident and that the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The attack also caused material damage that was still being assessed, the authority said.
Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said an unidentified projectile struck Terminal 4 at the airport Sunday afternoon, causing a fire.
The attack came a day after another strike on the same airport killed 12 people and injured more than 300 others. The Saudi-led coalition blamed Yemen’s Houthi group for that attack and vowed a firm response, calling it a violation of international humanitarian law.
North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles toward the East Sea on Monday, said South Korea's military, a little over a week after Pyongyang tested a suspected hypersonic missile.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) detected the launches around 9.20 am local time (0020GMT) from the Pyongyang area, with the missiles traveling more than 900 kilometers (559 miles), according to Yonhap News Agency.
South Korea's military said it had intensified surveillance for additional launches and was sharing intelligence with the United States and Japan while maintaining heightened readiness.
The launches followed North Korea's Oct. 3 missile test from Wonsan, which Pyongyang described as training for troops operating its hypersonic strategic weapons system. South Korea conducted its own first test launch of a hypersonic glide vehicle Thursday, in an apparent demonstration of its advanced missile capabilities.
US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate ceasefire on attacks targeting each other's energy infrastructure.
"Effective immediately, there is an energy ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
"Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!" he added.
There was no immediate independent confirmation from Moscow or Kyiv that the agreement had taken effect.
Earlier Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv was prepared to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stopped attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure, stressing that any de-escalation must be reciprocal and backed by guarantees.
A wave of attacks on Saudi airports over the past week has disrupted air travel, forced schools in Riyadh to shift to online learning and prompted foreign governments to issue warnings as authorities reported fresh strikes targeting airports in the capital and Dammam.
Ten attacks targeted five airports between Oct. 5 and 11, killing 20 people and injuring hundreds, according to an Anadolu tally based on official statements.
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was the hardest hit, with five attacks, followed by King Fahd International Airport in Dammam with two. Three other attacks targeted airports in Abha, Jazan and Najran.
