JEDDAH (AA) - September 4, 2012 - The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Tuesday made a call on OIC member states and the international community to urgently extend help to cholera stricken Sierra Leone.
"12,000 people have been affected by cholera in Sierra Leone. Measures should be taken so that more people in Sierra Leone do not get infected with cholera," Ihsanoglu stressed.
"The cholera epidemic led to the death of 224 people since January in Sierra Leone. Cholera may spread to more people in December when rainfall would begin. OIC member states need to act now and send urgent medical equipment to Sierra Leone," Ihsanoglu stated.
