ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines
Dozens of people are confirmed dead after a motorized boat carrying 173 people capsized off Ormoc City in the province of Leyte, the Philippines on Thursday, just 200 meters from the port.
GMA News said that at least 36 people had died, while 19 others are missing
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesman Cmdr. Armand Balilo told GMA that the MV Hervana was maneuvering after leaving the Ormoc City dock at around 12:50 p.m. (0550GMT) on Thursday, but turned over in rough seas.
The report quoted a survivor as saying that the vessel was loaded with hundreds of sacks of cement and rice.
Search operations continue.
