FAYOUM, Egypt
Gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on a non-commissioned officer in the province, killing him instantly, the Fayoum Security Directorate said in a statement.
According to the statement, the assailants had fled the scene unscathed.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
Militant attacks have been on the rise in Egypt, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, since last year's ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi by the military.
