ANKARA
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday made a proposal to the international community to hold an international meeting on Syria with the participation of Turkey, Iran, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Speaking to reporters in China, where he is attending the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization along with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lavrov said that the Annan Peace Plan has to be supported so that it preserves its function.
We think that the countries influencing different opposition groups in Syria must get together. Permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Turkey, Iran, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the European Union (EU) may be present in meeting. The states must remain loyal to the Annan Peace Plan, Lavrov also said.
