ANBAR, Iraq
Iraqi security forces killed 60 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in western Iraq Tuesday, a security source said.
All the casualties took place in Ramadi city, the capital of Iraq's Anbar province.
“Iraqi army and police backed by tribal fighters killed 30 ISIL militants in clashes in Sajariya area and al-Borisha area in Ramadi,” operations commander in Anbar, General Kasim al-Mohammadi, said.
Also, Iraqi security forces killed 10 ISIL militants when they attempted to enter Sajariyaa through the Euphrates River, the source added.
“Also, 20 ISIL militants, including four militants commanders have been killed in airstrikes launched by Iraqi air forces in Sajariya area,” al-Mohammadi, added.
There was no independent way to verify the claims of Iraqi authorities.
The ISIL terrorist group controls many areas of Anbar governorate, and is now attempting to take complete control of Ramadi city.
The U.S. is leading an international coalition that has carried out numerous airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since the militant group took over Mosul, in northern Iraq, in June.
