Seven members of the same family have drowned in a reservoir in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong Province, state media reported on Monday.
Citing a statement from local emergency services, the China News Service said the tragedy happened at around midday on Sunday after the family, from Jinzhou, Liaoning province, had visited ancestral graves for the Ching Ming festival, when people tend to family graves.
A 17-year-old girl fell into the water as she washed her hands in the reservoir in Shantou City’s Chaoyang district.
Relatives, including her parents, younger brother and younger sister, attempted to rescue her but drowned along with the teenager, according the statement.
Their bodies were recovered at around 4 p.m. local time (1000GMT).
