ISTANBUL
Syrian National Coalition (SNC), Syria's main opposition umbrella group, has repeated its call on the international community to put legitimate pressure on the Assad regime following the images and a report by a team of senior war crimes prosecutors obtained by Anadolu Agency that show the systematic killing of nearly 11,000 detainees at the hands of Syrian regime forces.
The inquiry team comprised of American and British prosecutors and forensic experts emphasizes that the photos point to "systematic torture and mass killings" by the Assad regime, SNC said in a written statement issued late on Monday night after the release of "clear evidence" proving systematic execution" by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Human Rights Watch has discovered that the regime systematically committed a war crime and employed a comprehensive strategy through which they fired randomly at civilians in dissident-controlled areas to force them to leave, the statement said.
SNC stated that this constitutes a new war crime and those responsible must be brought to justice.
Iran and Russia would be co-responsible for the ongoing bloodshed and they would be preventing a settlement to the crisis if they continue to support the Assad regime, the statement added.
SNC further said that Assad tried on undermine "Geneva II" peace conference and any possible attempt at a political solution, referring to the Syrian president's latest remarks that he would not quit and had no intention of stepping down.
