NEW DELHI – An anti-corruption party swept to power in India's capital Delhi, winning all but three seats in the local assembly. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party lost almost 30 seats in a vote some saw as a "referendum" on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first months in office.
SRINAGAR, Indian-held Kashmir – A Kashmiri youth was killed by gunfire, allegedly by Indian police on Monday, during a shutdown to mark the anniversary of the hanging of a former Kashmiri militant by Indian authorities in 2013. There were also clashes between youth and police on the following two days after the boy's death and to mark the hanging of another Kashmiri pro-independence figure.
– There was a six-day suspension of trade between Pakistani and Indian-held Kashmir after Indian authorities charged a truck driver from the opposite side with transporting narcotics.
DHAKA, Bangladesh – At least five people died after a boat carrying close to 200 people capsized in the Bay of Bengal. Authorities said the tragedy was caused by overcrowding.
KABUL, Afghanistan – The purported commander of ISIL militants in Afghanistan was reportedly killed in a drone strike in southern Helmand province. The former Taliban commander Abdul Rauf Khadim had switched allegiance to represent ISIL, which controls parts of Iraq and Syria.
PESHAWAR, Pakistan – At least 19 people were killed in a Taliban attack on a Shia mosque in Peshawar on Friday. Eyewitnesses said a group of around seven militants attacked the mosque. There have been several incidents of militants attacking Shia mosques during Friday prayers since the beginning of 2015.
KATHMANDU, Nepal – After repeated delays, the Supreme Court finally began hearing a petition by Nepali civil war victims to appeal the Truth and Reconciliation Act, which they say does not deliver justice to victims, claiming it is too lenient in awarding amnesty for perpetrators of violence during the decade-long civil war.
