Five Spanish soldiers who served in Iraq are to face trial for torture, according to Spain's El Pais newspaper.
A captain, two sergeants and two corporals will face the charges for the first time in Spanish history, the newspaper reported. They face up to 25 years in prison if convicted under military penal code.
The soldiers are accused of torture and inhumane treatment against two Iraqi prisoners in 2004. El Pais released a video in March last year allegedly showing Spanish soldiers kicking two prisoners on the ground.
