TEHRAN
Death toll in a magnitude 6.1 earthquake in southwest Iran rose to 30 with more than 800 injured, the country's state-run television IRINN quoted a provincial governor as saying.
Fereydoun Hassanvand, Bushehr governor, said the number of casualties was expected to remain lower than it was feared as the epicenter of the earthquake was located in an area between a mountainous region and the Persian Gulf.
Hassanvand said Bushehr nuclear power plant has not been affected from the earthquake that hit Kaki city.
Several aftershocks were felt in the area, the strongest being a magnitude of 5.3.
