Daesh took control of an oil field Saturday after fierce clashes with regime forces near Tadmur city in the western province of Homs, an opposition coordination said.
The Local Coordination Committees of Syria said in a statement that Assad regime warplanes targeted the area around the Palmyra world heritage area and dozens of Daesh militants were killed.
On Thursday, Irina Bokova, UNESCO director general, had expressed her deep concern over the safety of thePalmyra historical site because of the ongoing clashes between Daesh and regime forces.
The coordination committees are groups of local Syrian activists who oppose the regime of President Bashar al-Assad and publish news via social media webpages.
Syria’s civil conflict, which has entered its fifth year, has left tens of thousands of people dead and millions of others displaced both internally and externally.
