MOSCOW
Ten people have been killed after a passenger bus in eastern Ukraine was destroyed by a shell, according to a press spokesperson for the Donetsk regional state administration.
Elena Malyutina told the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Tuesday that the attack happened near the settlement of Volnovakha.
"Ten people were killed and 13 injured due to a direct hit on a bus from Dokuchaevsk that was passing near a roadblock outside Volnovakha," Malyutina said.
Airport shelled
Separatists fired from the direction of Dokuchaevsk at the Ukrainian checkpoint near Volnovakha, according to the administration.
The head of the Donetsk regional police, Vyacheslav Abroskin, confirmed the deaths and said those wounded in the attack had been taken to the central hospital in Volnovakha.
What was left of the Donetsk airport's control tower was destroyed by shelling earlier on Tuesday amid renewed fighting around the facility, a frequent site of clashes between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists.
