Thousands of Yemenis staged a massive demonstration in capital Sanaa on Wednesday to denounce "violations" committed by the Shiite Houthi group.
Protesters chanted slogans against Houthi "violations" and the abduction of activists by Houthi militants, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter.
They also called for the release of abductees held by the Houthi group, including members of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Islah Party.
Houthi leaders could not be reached for comment.
Yemen has remained in a state of chaos since last September, when the Houthis took over Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their control to other parts of the country.
Last month, the Houthis issued what they described as a constitutional declaration dissolving parliament and establishing a 551-member transitional council.
The Houthi group had also placed President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and several government ministers under house arrest, but Hadi managed to flee Sanaa last month to the southern cityof Aden.
Upon his arrival in Aden, Hadi dismissed as "null" and "illegitimate" all recently-issued Houthi decrees. He also wrote to Yemen's parliament, withdrawing a resignation he had tendered earlier.
Most of Yemen's political forces – along with some neighboring Gulf countries – have described the Houthi takeover of Yemen's power as a coup against constitutional legitimacy.
