The death toll from renewed clashes between two tribes in southeastern Yemen rose to 17, a local official said Wednesday.
"The clashes that erupted on Tuesday morning and continued into the night between Shabwah's Balharith tribe and Marib's Abu Tahif tribe left 17 dead and 30 injured," the official told Anadolu Agency, requesting anonymity.
According to the official, the fatalities involved 11 from Balharith tribe and six from Abu Tahif.
Most of the injured were from Balharith as well, he added.
There were fears of renewed clashes in view of the absence of any mediation for a truce.
It remains unclear how the violence began.
Last year, deadly clashes – in which dozens were killed – broke out between the two tribes over land ownership.
The violence was only brought to an end after other tribes intervened to mediate.
The Yemeni government has yet to comment on the latest outbreak of tribal violence.
