SARAJEVO
The European Parliament (EP) rapporteur for Serbia, Yelko Kacin, on Wednesday said that Turkey was a factor for stability in the Balkans.
At a time of economic crisis, Balkan countries' cooperation with Turkey is a good fortune for these countries, Kacin noted.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Kacin said that the government in Serbia changed recently following the elections and that they had respect for the decision of the people.
The leader of the Serbian Socialist Party, Ivica Dacic, must be given a chance. Dacic is a very productive politician and served as a Deputy Premier and Interior Minister in the former government, Kacin stressed.
Dacic performed well in facilitating visa-free travels for Serbians in the EU countries. Dacic's success depends on how much effort he makes, and the partners around him. The financial and economic crisis have led to new and different difficulties. The former coalition lost the elections as they could not respond to the financial and economic difficulties. As such, Dacic must be given a chance to establish the government and also given 100 days to prove the functionality of the government. I do not want to doubt this personally and on behalf of the European Parliament, Kacin noted.
When reminded about being the former press adviser of Slobodan Milosevic, Kacin said that pre-election campaigns were over.
It is now time to evaluate change and performance and not spoken words. All the said words are behind us. It is now time to work. Everything now depend on solutions to be found for problems that could not be solved to date. Those people who voted expect change, and they want this change immediately, Kacin underlined.
-"Turkey a factor for stability in Balkans"-
Asked about his views on Turkey's contributions to peace in the Balkans, Kacin stressed that Turkey was a factor for peace in the Balkans.
At a time of economic crisis, Balkan countries' cooperation with Turkey is a good fortune for these countries, Kacin noted.
Turkey, at the same time, is a factor for investments. Turkey is a factor for development where it makes investments. Turkey is a country that has fixed its banking system and is ready for economic growth. Certain European countries lagging behind in these matters could learn a lot from the Turkish example, Kacin stressed.
