MUSCAT (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met Oman's Deputy Prime Minister Seyyid Fahd bin al-Said during Oman step of his Gulf tour.
During the historical visit, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of Turkey-Oman relations, bilateral issues were discussed by the two ministers.
"The relations between Turkey and Oman is probably the longest and thus historical one in the region," said Davutoglu.
"We mutually compromised with both Oman Deputy PM and FM on issues such as developing the defence industry, the bilateral trade, and signing new agreements on culture and tourism which would accelerate our relations. In following days and weeks, related colleagues and committees will work in our ministry to realize those decisions," Davutoglu added.
Davutoglu said they discussed on the Turkish companies in Oman, and the difficulties and deficiencies.
"The substructure of Turkish firms worth for $5.5 billion in Oman is an important project. And we aim to increase our trading volume to $1 billion with Oman, which is $350-400 million already, as soon as possible," Davutoglu said.
- "Oman has always taken steps on TRNC that we appreciate"
Davutoglu also stressed that Oman is a country which closely cooperates with Turkey in international problems.
"Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has an office here and Oman has always taken steps on TRNC that we appreciate," Davutoglu said.
Related with the Syria crisis, Davutoglu said, "There is a political will for the legitimate Syrian opposition to be supported in order for a political vacuum not to occur. The radicals inside and outside the regime would affect Syria's future and stability negatively. As yesterday's release by Syria's friends group in London, strong statements were used to support Syrian National Coalition and the groups working with the coalitions."
- Iraqi Foreign Minister Zebari's visit to Turkey
Concerning the Iraqi FM Hoshyar Zebari's Turkey visit, Davutoglu stressed "We expect Mr. Zebari to visit us on Friday. Then I will make a visit to Iraq."
