United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his wish to attend the final vote by the Tunisian National Constituent Assembly (NCA) on the country's draft constitution, a reliable source told Anadolu Agency Sunday.
According to the source, a UN official in Tunisia conveyed to the assembly Ki-moon's interest in joining the final voting session on the country's post-revolution draft charter, expected to be held next week.
For the last several days, Tunisia's constituent assembly has been voting on the articles of a new draft constitution.
The country's first constitution, adopted in 1959, was deactivated following the uprising that toppled autocratic president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in early 2011.
Habib Khidr, constitutional committee rapporteur for the Tunisian National Assembly, had told Anadolu Agency earlier that the assembly aimed to finish voting on all draft articles before the 14 January anniversary of the 2011 uprising.
The constitution must be approved by two thirds of assembly members to be adopted.
