WASHINGTON (AA) - US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel discussed Syria with his British counterpart Philip Hammond in a phone conversation on Friday.
A Pentagon release said Hagel provided Hammond with an update on US activities in the eastern Mediterranean in response to the Syrian chemical weapons attack on Aug. 21.
It said the leaders exchanged perspectives on Russia's offer, announced earlier this week, on securing Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles.
The statement added Hagel thanked Hammond for the "close coordination" in diplomatic channels to address the Syrian civil war and last month’s chemical weapons crisis.
