MOSCOW (AA) - Former US spy agency contractor Edward Snowden reportedly has left Russia for the Cuban capital of Havana on his way to Ecuador where he is seeking asylum.
A flight to Havana, which Snowden is expected to board on Monday, departed from the Russian capital, Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. Russian Intelligence agents took tight security measures and closed all the windows overlooking the runway.
Snowden, a former defense contractor and leaker of classified surveillance programs of the US National Security Agency (NSA), is charged with espionage, theft and conversion of government property.
Snowden had initially fled to Hong Kong and then flew to Moscow.
Lawyer for Wikileaks may defend Snowden
Former Spanish judge Baltasar Garzon, now the lawyer for WikiLeaks and Julian Assange, may defend US spy agency contractor Edward Snowden.
"First of all, I would like to fully understand what the situation is and talk to him. Then I will make a decision," Garzon told a Spanish radio, Cadenaser, on Monday.
Garzon said he had not yet decided whether to defend Snowden.
