WASHINGTON
The coalition hit key ISIL targets with airstrikes on Friday and Saturday.
The U.S. and partner nations carried out a series of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria Friday and Saturday, hitting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, nine times in Syria and five times in Iraq, according to U.S. Central Command.
Two strikes south of the Syrian city of Kobani, also known as Ayn al-Arab, destroyed an ISIL armored personnel carrier, an ISIL vehicle and hit a small ISIL unit. Two other strikes east of the city destroyed an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL building, three artillery positions and damaged a large ISIL unit.
Southeast of Deir ez-Zor, two strikes destroyed an ISIL tank and another vehicle. Two strikes near ISIL’s unofficial capital of Raqqah damaged the Tabqa airfield and destroyed an artillery piece. One strike south of al-Hasakah destroyed an ISIL depot and logistics complex.
The United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia participated in the Syria strikes.
In Iraq, an ISIL vehicle and a small ISIL unit were destroyed in two strikes northeast of Fallujah. A large ISIL unit south of Rabiyah was hit in a strike, and a strike north of Hit destroyed two ISIL humvees. An additional strike north of Ramadi destroyed an ISIL armored vehicle.
“The destruction and degradation of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group's ability to lead, control, project power and conduct operations,” Central Command said in their statement.
