The U.S. embassy in Sanaa has denounced a car bomb that went off on Wednesday outside the residence of the Iranian ambassador to Yemen leaving one man dead and 17 other people injured.
In a statement, the embassy condemned the attack and expressed its condolences to victims' families.
It said the targeting of diplomats and diplomatic institutions could not be justified, stressing that such attacks contravene international norms.
The embassy urged Yemeni authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the bombing with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
According to a local security source, Wednesday's car bombing targeted the Iranian ambassador's residence in central Sanaa.
The ambassador was not at home at the time of the attack, the security source added.
