ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia
Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) President Assistant Professor Dr. Kudret Bulbul visited the Africa Regional Office of Anadolu Agency in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa Monday.
The YTB comes under the Turkish Prime Ministry.
Bulbul and his delegation were accompanied by the newly appointed Turkish Ambassador to Ethiopia and Representative to the African Union, Fatih Ulusoy.
Ibrahim Tigli, Anadolu Agency’s general manager for Africa, and Mohammed Taha Tewekel, head of Ethiopia Office, briefed the visitors over the functions of the AA office.
Bulbul said he was delighted to see the AA office operating in Ethiopia in particular and the African region in general.
“Anadolu Agency operates in nine languages globally,” he said.
He also said this was his first visit to Africa. “During my visit, I will meet with Ethiopian authorities, African Union officials and think-tanks, among others.”
Ulusoy said the AA office will be an instrument to bring the peoples of Turkey and Africa closer.
“Yesterday, we had a nice event with the participation of the Turkish community here,” he said. “Anadolu Agency is a very important media in the region,” he added.
He said the Turkish presence in the continent had grown in terms of trade and investment, and hoped this cooperation would expand further during his tenure.
Anadolu Agency opened its Ethiopia office in Addis Ababa on December 15, 2013. It has now expanded to become the agency’s Africa Regional Office.
