LONDON
World famous chocolate fashion show, formed by outfits made or used by chocolate, impressed choco and fashion lovers in British capital London.
Coming to London for the first time within the scope of the National Chocolate Week, the world's largest chocolate show Salon du Chocolat opened its doors with a gala evening. The week aims to bring best chocolatiers and chocolate companies in the UK together with chocolate fans, and promote the best chocolate through events across the country.
Yummy dresses enriched with chocolate necklaces, bags and hats were made together by famous fashion designers and chocolate makers. One of the dresses combined with a fan and hat took most of the attention during the event. The dress made by using 50 kg of Lindt chocolate was decorated with chocolate bars attached to its skirts. Designer of the hand made dress, Lauren Smith told Anadolu Agency that she completed the dress in two to three weeks and all stages were made by her. She stated that they had challenging times as the chocolate was melting away quite easily. The dress made by fabric was spray painted with chocolate.
Master chocolatier of the world chocolate giant, Lindt, David Cutler said once the package was open rather than a strong smell of chocolate, each flavour's smell should be felt. Explaining the bullet points of how to pick the best chocolate, he said, "If the smell is too strong then it tells you it has artificials in it. Another one is the feeling of it. When you hold it, the chocolate should melt between your fingers, not runny but smooth and silky feeling. And the "snap" sound is the most important one. You should be able hear that snap when you split the bar or piece."
Througout the years, following each research experts stated that chocolate may protect our brain and heart, fighting cancer. However, these do not apply on those you get from the supermarket.
Once the chocolate is high in sugar, master chocolatier Cutler said, there are no benefits of chocolate to our health. He said that he personally prefers chocolate containing 99 percent cocoa. Experts also stress that high amounts of consuming chocolate rich in sugar and milk will cause diabeties and weight gain. So the best type of chocolate for our health is the ones with high in cocoa.
Furthermore, Dan Morris, the retail chocolatier of Hotel Chocolat which is the only company in Britain to grow cocoa on its own plantation told Anadolu Agency that the cocoa was more antioxidant-rich than pomegranate or green tea. "Chewing cocoa beans is good for your teeth," he added.
The fair in London's Olympia exhibition centre will close its doors on Sunday. Visitors can enjoy many activities such as attending tasting rooms, culinary sessions and so on.
