Two Chinese diplomats were killed and their consul-general wounded Wednesday in a shooting in the bustling city of Cebu in the central Philippines, local media reported.
The Freeman Cebu reported that the shooting was carried out by two Chinese nationals at the Lighthouse restaurant shortly after 1.30 p.m. (05:30GMT).
Senior Inspector Felisandro Quijano of the Cebu City Police Office confirmed to Sunstar Cebu that the victims were Consul General Song Ronghua, an official and one staff member from the city's Chinese consulate.
The Freeman Cebu quoted radio reports that Song and a group of Chinese nationals were at a birthday celebration when a fight broke out and two armed persons opened fire.
Two suspects -- identified as Li Qing Liang and Guo Jing -- were immediately arrested along with other Chinese nationals and employees of the consulate.
Quijano said the victims were rushed to hospital after the incident.
The consul-general, he added, had sustained a minor injury, while two other consulate staff -- initially identified as Sun Shen and Huil -- died in hospital.
