The NordBalt electricity connection between Lithuania and Sweden was disconnected Friday afternoon, media reports said.
According to initial reports, the high-voltage direct current connection was disconnected following a failure at the converter station on the Swedish side, broadcaster LRT reported.
After the NordBalt disconnection, reserves were activated, and electricity transmission to consumers in Lithuania was not disrupted and remained stable, Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator Litgrid told the Lithuanian broadcaster.
The 700 MW power connection with Sweden has been operational since 2016.
Swedish broadcaster SVT reported that Swedish electricity operator Svenska kraftnat is "investigating the cause," but that the outage did not affect the electricity grid.
"There is currently nothing to indicate external influence," noted Tobias Ostberg, spokesperson for the Swedish company.
