Turkey congratulates Qatar over historic Asian Cup win

ISTANBUL

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the historic Asian Cup win in football in a phone call on Saturday.

Erdogan congratulated the Qatari on becoming the Asian Cup champion, said presidential sources.

Qatar is celebrating a historic first Asian Cup win in football after beating Japan in final on Friday.

The national team beat the four-time champions 3-1 at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

The two leaders also pledged to further strengthen Turkey-Qatar relations in all areas.
