Chemical weapons “were likely used" in five out of seven attacks in Syria says a UN report released on Thursday.
The report does not determine which side used the weapons but just that chemical weapons were used. It states they were used "on a large scale" in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta on August 21, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians.
The report says it has proof that chemical weapons were used in Syrian cities Khan al-Assal, near Aleppo, in March; in Saraqeb, near Idlib, in April; and in Jobar and Ashrafiat Sahnaya, near Damascus, in August. It also says that Sarin had likely also been used - “on a small-scale” in Jobar, Saraqeb and Ashrafiat Sahnaya.
In several cases the victims also included Syrian government soldiers, the report says.
