WASHINGTON
US President Barack Obama met on Wednesday with key national security principals on the eve of the 12th anniversary of September 11th.
Obama met with the principals on their preparedness and security posture, the White House said in a written statement.
It is stated that the assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, Lisa Monaco, convened numerous meetings over the past several months to review the security measures in place for this anniversary, as well as other global threats, including the recent threat emanating from the Arab peninsula.
The president’s national security team was taking measures to prevent 9/11 related attacks and to ensure the protection of US persons and facilities abroad, the statement said, adding that "the president reiterated that protecting the American people, both at home and abroad, is the administration’s top national security priority."
Reminding of the attack last year on the US consulate in Benghazi, in which ambassador Chris Stevens and diplomats Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods lost their lives, the statement said that the event conveyed the reality of the challenges the US faces in the world.
The statement also noted that they remained "committed to bringing the perpetrators of the Benghazi attacks to justice and to ensuring the safety of their brave personnel serving overseas."
