Al Thani and an accompanying delegation first landed in El-Arish airport in Egypt in the north of Sinai Peninsula, and then proceeded to Gaza by helicopter.
Palestinian government head Ismail Haniyah and several cabinet members welcomed Al Thani with a military ceremony.
Al Thani is the first Arab leader who visited Gaza since 1967.
