Curacao extend Dick Advocaat's contract until 2027

Curacao head coach Dick Advocaat signed a contract extension that will keep him in charge until July 2027, the country's football federation announced on Wednesday.

The Federashon Futbol Korsou (FFK) said the 78-year-old Dutch coach agreed to extend his deal through July 31 next year, citing continuity and stability around the national team.

Advocaat guided Curacao to their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2026, making the Caribbean island the smallest country by both population and land area ever to qualify for the tournament.

Curacao finished bottom of Group E in their debut appearance, earning one point from a goalless draw against Ecuador.

Advocaat also became the oldest head coach in World Cup history at age 78.

"This is a fantastic group to work with. We have achieved something special together, and I look forward to continuing to build on what we have accomplished with the players and staff," Advocaat said.

The veteran coach resigned in February to focus on his daughter's health before returning to the role in May following the departure of Fred Rutten.

Advocaat, who has managed several national teams and clubs during a coaching career spanning nearly four decades, took charge of Curacao in 2024.

His major club honors include league titles with PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg, as well as the 2008 UEFA Cup with the Russian club.

At the international level, he led the Netherlands to the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals and Euro 2004 semifinals, and also coached South Korea and Russia at major tournaments.

FFK Acting President Fabi Constansia said the extension reflected the federation's desire for "continuity and stability" while it continued investing in the development of football in Curacao.
