ANKARA
A senior official of a prominent Turkish vehicle manufacturer lost his life in a helicopter crash off Istanbul on Thursday.
The pilot of the helicopter was also injured in the crash.
"A private helicopter crashed in [Istanbul’s] Maltepe district's Bostanci coast and two people were slightly injured,” Istanbul’s governor’s office announced on Twitter shortly after the accident.
The cause of the accident is not yet clear.
Hours later, one of the injured Halil Unver -- vice president of the executive board of Otokar, a Turkish multinational bus and military vehicle manufacturer, -- succumbed to his injuries at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul.
Treatment of the pilot Ismet Ozgur is ongoing at Lutfi Kirdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital, according to the hospital’s Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Recep Demirhan.
An investigation into the accident has been initiated by the Anadolu Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul.
