KABUL
Afghanistan has decided to suspend security agreement talks with the US following US's announcement to hold direct talks with the Taliban in Qatar.
"The ongoing bilateral talks on security agreement between the Afghan and the US delegates in the capital of Kabul have been suspended over proposed US direct talks with the Taliban," said a statement released from the Afghan National Security Council.
President Hamid Karzai demands talks should be held between the Afghan High Council for Peace and the Taliban rather than US and the Taliban. Karzai also says talks should take place in Afghanistan.
Officials from the Afghan High Council for Peace say the Taliban office in Qatar should not be taken as political office but and address to hold peace talks.
Meanwhile the Taliban objects to direct talks with Karzai government.
The announcement came a day after NATO handed over the security to the Afghan government.
