ISTANBUL
Bahraini Prince Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al-Khalifa has donated $1.3 million for Syrian refugees who took shelter in Turkey after fleeing government violence in their country.
"The things that Turkey does for the Syrian refugees deserves utmost respect," al-Khalifa told a ceremony organized by the Royal Charity Fund at Istanbul's Four Seasons Hotel.
Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Donmez received the donation.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Turkey Carol Batchelor also attended the ceremony.
Aid organizations gather in Istanbul to discuss Syria efforts
Moreover, representatives from a number of aid organizations in Europe, the Middle East and Turkey have gathered in Istanbul to coordinate their humanitarian efforts in Syria.
"We are trying to organize our efforts and our future planning will be made through this platform," said Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which hosted Saturday the meeting of the Platform for Humanitarian Aid in Syria.
