BALIKESIR, Turkey
Fishermen rescued Wednesday 37 Syrian refugees trying to reach a Greek Island from Turkey, as the boat their capsized.
Sources from the Turkish Coast Guard have said that refugees -- many of whom women and children -- were trying to reach the Greek Island of Lesvos from Balikesir’s Ayvalik district, western Turkey.
The refugees were later taken on board a Turkish coast guard vessel to be handed over to the police.
Refugees claimed they had paid 1,100 Euros each to reach the Greek island.
