PARIS
French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that he was in favor of the deployment of a UN peace force in Mali.
Speaking to a French radio station, Le Drian indicated that troops from African countries who are presently in Mali should be turned into a UN peace force.
Asked about possible French contribution to the UN peace force, Le Drian underlined that they would go over the issue at the right place and time.
Sending peace force to Mali on agenda of UN Security Council
Meanwhile, United Nations Security Council will debate sending a UN peace force to the north of Mali after France's military intervention in the African country.
Term president of the UN Security Council in January and Pakistan's Permanent Representative at the UN, Massoud Khan reminded reporters that a decision taken by the Security Council on December 20 paved the way for sending a peace force to Mali led by African nations.
