ANKARA
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Tuesday Greek Cypriot administration's new leader Nicos Anastasiades would undergo a test in his approach to efforts to find a settlement to the Cyprus issue, adding that the Greek Cypriot leader campaigned in favor of a UN-brokered peace deal in 2004, which was accepted by the Turkish Cypriots but rejected by the Greek Cypriots.
"A test is due for Anastasiades. He will surely receive a positive response if he adopts the same approach he had back then," Davutoglu told a meeting of the Justice and Development (AK) Party in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Davutoglu said responsibility for the failure to reach a settlement on Cyprus rested with the Greek Cypriot administration, adding that Turkey believed in a solution which was based on equal rights for the two Cypriot communities and on a bi-zonal structure.
"If Anastasiades assumes a position on these principles the negotiations will see a momentum," Davutoglu said.
