DIYARBAKIR
Governor's Office of the southeastern Diyarbakir province stated that the successful counter-narcotic operations of security forces were the reason of recent incidents in Diyarbakir's Lice town.
The office said that the groups, who gained a big interest in illicit drug trafficking in the region, launched such initiatives in Lice.
The groups feared to lose their income gained by illicit drug trafficking as with the beginning of "solution process" so that they tried to sabotage the process by causing the recent incidents in Lice, said the office.
Recently, one person was killed and nine others were wounded in a melee between security forces and a group that attacked the construction site of a military outpost in Lice town. The group demanded the construction work be halted, which started a few months ago to expand the military post, and then attacked the post with molotov bombs, demolishing the work site where workers stayed.
A legal investigation regarding the case was conducted by public prosecutor of Diyarbakir.
