ANKARA
Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said on Thursday that they were against the double standards of the EU and the embargo on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) should be lifted.
Speaking at the 31st meeting of the Turkey-EU Joint Consultation Committee, Bagis said eight chapters of Turkey were vetoed due to the Cyprus issue and added they were against the double standards of the EU. He said they would open all the ports of TRNC if the Europeans kept their promises.
He said he got positive messages regarding new chapters during his visit to Ireland, that would take the lead in EU.
Bagis said there wasn't any other country faster than Turkey on making reforms.
He said Turkey aimed to have a new civil constitution soon and one of the most important principles in a new constitution would be division of powers, adding that it was best defined in presidential system.
