CAIRO
Head of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, Ramadan Shallah called on the Palestinian groups to unite.
Answering questions of AA correspondent in Cairo, Shallah said their basic objective was a national unity in Palestine. He said there were some challenges and added that every party should make candid efforts for overcoming those challenges.
He said there was a positive atmosphere on a possible reconciliation.
On Palestine's upgraded status at the UN, Shallah said the "non-member observer state" status had some disadvantages such as bringing an international limit to the rights of Palestinians, as well as some advantages. He said the happiness of the Palestinians over the upgraded status was "incomplete" and they would be happy when Palestine would be free.
Shallah said Islamic Jihad did not join Palestinian administration because of the Oslo Agreement.
