NEW YORK
In a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in New York on Monday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon conveyed his appreciation to Turkey for its restraint on Syria and assistance extended to Syrian refugees living in Turkey.
According to diplomatic sources, Ban Ki-moon thanked Davutoglu on two issues during their meeting on Monday.
Firstly, Ban said, "we watch with appreciation Turkey's restraint on Syria in response to incidents at the Turkish-Syrian border".
Secondly, Ban emphasized, "we watch with great appreciation Turkey's assistance to Syrian refugees in Turkey".
Minister Davutoglu, in his part, said that there was a deadlock at the UN Security Council on Syria which resembled the mentality during the Cold War.
"Such a deadlock has negative implications on Turkey and other regional countries," Davutoglu underlined.
