NAIROBI
At least 41 people have been killed and another 41 injured, including nine children in serious conditions, in a bus accident near Narok town, about 180 km west of the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
The local police chief, Peterson Maelo, told Anadolu Agency that the bus was traveling from Nairobi to Homabay town on the shores of Lake Victoria in the western part of the country.
He added that the driver appeared to have lost control at a bend with the bus plunging into a ravine.
The driver is believed to have been unfamiliar with the road.
Maelo said 41 people have already been confirmed dead while 41 others have been admitted to Narok District Hospital.
He asserted that the bus was overloaded, carrying over 80 passengers when it only had a capacity for 62.
Apart from the passengers, there were tons of luggage in the boot and carrier of the bus.
Thirteen people have perished on the same road in three different accidents over the last two weeks.
