SINAI
Egyptian army troops killed two gunmen in Arish, the capital city of the North Sinai province, on Thursday.
Backed by armored vehicles and elite forces, army troops stormed two farms and clashed with gunmen hiding inside, a security source told the Anadolu Agency.
Nine gunmen were arrested and caches of weapons were seized, the source added.
There was no official comment from the army until the filing of this report.
The Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with both Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip, has seen almost daily attacks by unknown gunmen since the July 3 military ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi.
On August 19, 25 policemen were killed and two others injured in an attack in North Sinai.
It was the deadliest incident of its kind since August of last year, when 16 Egyptian border guards were killed by unidentified gunmen at a border checkpoint near Rafah.
