Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon met with Foreign Minister of Greece Dimitris Avramopoulos on Thursday.
According to a statement released from the UN News Centre that the meeting between Ban and Avramopoulos in New York covered the prospects for a settlement in Cyprus, resolving the "name" dispute with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Ban stated the importance of accelerating progress in these two issues and added, he will keep giving his support for finding a solution to these problems.
The UN statement did not cover the details of Greek Foreign Ministry's statement of, "Upon instructions of Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, a note verbale was submitted to the UN yesterday, in which Greece notifies the UN of Turkey's granting of exploration permits for areas of the Greek continental shelf."

Furthermore, UN SG Ban condemned the attacks in Syria and India.
According to another statement of the News Centre of the UN, Ban condemned the series of bombings that struck the Syrian capital Damascus on Thursday.
Ban sent his condolences to the families of the victims and the formal statement said, "The Secretary-General renews his call on all parties to end the violence and respect international humanitarian law. The Secretary-General reiterates his firm conviction that resorting to violence and military means will only lead to more suffering and destruction, and that a political solution is the only way out."
Moreover, Ban condemned the bomb attacks in India's Haydarabad and sent his condolences to the Indian government, their people and to the families of the victims.
